Hello everyone, today I am reviewing a cigar called “Cargo” by Rocky Patel. I came across this cigar at cigarbid.com and decided to take my chances at winning a five pack for a bid of $7.00. As lucky would have it, I scored and the rest is history. So with the history behind us, I am now ready to give you my verdict on if it passes the mighty “Stew” test or not.
CIGAR MAKE UP:
WRAPPER: Ecuadorian Connecticut
BINDER & FILLER: Nicaraguan / Nicaraguan
Length/Ring: 6 X 58
Strength: Mild to Medium
Price: Approximately $4.80 to $5.oo per stick.
My Observations: This cigar is really nothing special to look at when you first lay your eyes on it. The cigar is medium brown in color that is very rough and toothy to the touch. Add in the medium size veins that appear to give the cigar a sloppy appearance, and most cigar snobs “as Tom from TomsCigars would say” would most likely skip it. But before you do remember that great cigars are not always about their appearance. So watch out before you give this one the skip.
Now on the finger touch inspection, I found no soft spots to speak of and now its time to see if the inside is better than the outside.
Cigar Label: Very nice touch by Rocky. I say this because of its rich red, black, and white colors that draw your attention to it.
Snip: Straight cut.
Pre-Draw: Coffee.
Flavors: The 1st third of this cigar consisted of a sweet spot that reminded me of sugar, small hints of spice, wood, and earth. The 2nd third continued with these flavors with no other changes. The last third continued with these flavors but seemed to get bolder that immediately move this stick into the medium range with its bolder hintts of spice.
Draw: Perfect
Burn line: Jagged at times.
Liked it: Yes
Recommend it: Yes.
Hint: Give it a try and for the price point its a true winner!
Over All

Hello everyone. Recently I read an article over at the Stogie Review by Walt on the Nub Connecticut cigar. In his video review, he questions whether or not the Nub cigars are still a factor in the cigar world today. Once I finished watching the video I decided to tackle the question myself here at the World According to Stew. I too loved the Nub’s when they first came out but kind of lost touch with them since then. Anyway here is my thoughts on my revisit to the Nub Connecticut.
CIGAR MAKE UP:
WRAPPER: Connecticut
BINDER & FILLER: Nicaraguan / Nicaraguan
Length/Ring: 4 X 60
Strength: Mild to Medium
Price: Approximately $7.00
My Observations: I found it to be a nice looking cigar that fits perfectly in your hand. The cigar itself had a minor imperfection consisting of a small pin hole mid way down the cigar but other than that not much other to speak of.
Cigar Label: Very cool tan, gold, brown, and maroon colors.
Snip: Straight cut.
Pre-Draw: Pleasant tobacco taste.
Flavors: The 1st third of this cigar consisted of a nice buttery taste complimented by cocoa, which was the same that I detected back in 2008. The 2nd third stayed pretty much the same with small hints of nuts. The last third basically ended without any additional changes.
Draw: Perfect
Burn line: Perfect
Liked it: Yes
Recommend it: Yes.
In closing, this cigar was just as a remembered it to be. A good quality cigar that lets you enjoy a quick smoke if time is factor. Finally, I agree with Walt in the fact that I too have replaced this cigar as my Connecticut go to due to others that have arrived on the scene that are cheaper money with richer flavors.
So is the Nub’s fame over? I would have to say “Yes.” Why “Yes” you ask, well the way I see it is the cigar was nothing more than a fab that peaked in 2008 & 2009 and has since faded. Please don’t get me wrong, I still love the line but facts are facts and I believe most have moved away from the hype leaving this line to fade away in the sunset.

On May 22, 2010, I completed a life long dream of graduating college. It is one that began in late 2006 in night school and online classes. One that took sacrifice not only by myself but to my wife as well. The journey finally ended on May 22, 2010, after a final semester that saw the birth of my son Liam in the beginning and one last final exam that put my wife through complete hell. So at this time I would like to thanks them for putting up with my time away from home and a few melt downs while I was gettimg assignments, papers, and studying done to accomplish this dream of mine. I love you guys and I will never forget the sacrificing you made for me to obtain this goal. Thank you dearly Rhonda and Liam, I would have never fulfilled this dream without the both of you!
