Iron Horse

Hello everyone, its time for my first cigar review of 2012. I decided to start with Iron Horse which I received from the good folks from Famous Cigars. I was recently contacted by Scott Shemtov and asked to give my opinion on them. So before we begin, I would like to thank Scott and Famous for sending me a couple to try.  So with the history behind us, I am now ready to give you my verdict on if it passes the mighty “Stew” test or not.

CIGAR MAKE UP:

WRAPPER: Ecuadorian

BINDER & FILLER: Dominican / Dominican

Ring: 7 X 50

Strength: Medium

Price: Sent to me at no cost for this review but you can find them at $ 18.99 for a 5 pack.

Observations: This cigar is a nice looking creature that has a medium brown colored wrapper that is surrounded by small non noticeable veins. As I twirled it in my fingers I found only one imperfection and some  soft spots.  Over all “B” in the grading department.

Cigar Label: Very cool with the silver horse surrounded by a black, silver, and white color wrapper.

 Snip: Straight cut

Pre-Draw: Not much detected except tobacco flavor.

Flavors: The 1st third of this cigar consisted of spice and a foul pungent taste that already has me hating this smoke. The 2nd third continued with the spice and the foulpungent taste that really prevented me from picking up anything else. The last third seemed to get a little better with the pungent flavor dying down and a smooth tobacco flavor popping out, but for me it was a little to late.

Draw: Smooth

Burn line: A bit jagged at times.

Liked it: No

Hint: I would skip it!

Stew’s Top Five Cigars of 2011

Hello everyone and Happy New Year. Usually, I do the top ten of the year but this year was extremely slow here at the World According to Stew. Not expecting anything to change this year as well with the coming of my new daughter Nora sometime in March 2012. But rest a sure that the site will continue on but the posts will be limited and I’m sure you all understand. So with that behind us, lets get to my top five shall we.

  • Please note that these are only the cigars that I enjoyed here during 2011 and are not consistent with the newly released cigars of 2011.

1.Cromagnon Cranium ~ A new release cigar company from my twitter pal Skip Martin that was just an awesome smoke!

3) Monte Cruz Cameroon ~ The sleeper of 2011. Try it you will know what I mean.

4) Liga Privada “Flying Pig” T52 ~ Too expensive for an everyday smoke but well worth the price point.

5) Quesada Oktoberfest ~ Success!

So that’s how I see it for 2011. Again “Happy New Year” to you and your family and let the review season for 2012 begin!
